Mimi’s Journey

I’d love to share a bit about my journey. It’s a story that truly shows God’s faithfulness.

I came to America from Vietnam all by myself when I was 15. I was chasing what I called the ‘American Dream’ for my mom.

But only a year later, my whole world was completely shattered. My mother passed away unexpectedly. Shortly after that, my father went bankrupt and had to go into hiding.

So there I was, 16 years old, a world away from home, and utterly alone.

In that moment of complete hopelessness, with absolutely nothing left, I turned to God. He was the ‘American God’ my host family had told me about.

And that’s when everything changed. God started working miracles in my life.

When it seemed impossible, He provided a way for me to finish high school.

I had only a 1% chance of getting a college scholarship—which was the only way I could stay in the country. But God delivered a full ride.

After years of fighting the terrible fear of deportation, He delivered my green card. He even opened the door for me to get my MBA from Yale.

After everything I had been through, my biggest fear was that I would always be alone. God answered that prayer, too, by bringing my wonderful husband into my life.

My story is a reminder that God can take a situation of total despair and turn it into a life overflowing with blessings.

I came here looking for a dream, but I found God, which was so much better.
